omg you guys are something. You say you love your city and you do nothing but put it down. Why dont you do something constructive instead. Even talking good about it will help.
The thread is about the train not about the fact that you hate nyers, hate truckers, hate the politicians, hate the restaurant that dont serve food to you liking etc., etc., etc.,
I was merely making an observation not trying to goad anyone into hysteria. I appologize if I offended anyone!

What areas of Scranton resemble South Bronx?
This rail line is not needed and funds should be spent upgrading existing regional rails in the major cities instead.

Roxxy, you did not offend anyone. My reasons for not liking the city have been well documented on this forum, so I'm not going to go into them here and risk derailing this thread. I said, I would love this city if I could, but I have my reasons for not liking it, but that is neither here nor there. I don't hate NYer's, I used to be one. I don't hate truckers, they serve a purpose in this country and I don't hate restaurants that don't serve food to my liking, I just don't go there anymore. I don't think Dan or I implied any of this. As for the train, I still think it's a bad idea for this area at this time. If they did this years ago, then fine, but we don't really need it now. And I respect your observation and no one is hysterical about this at all.

LOL!!! " Derailing"!! Ed, you made a funny while keeping on train topic!!! Good boy!! Soup for you!!

From what I saw of Scranton, it needs revitalization, but though the train may be a good idea as far as "linking" Scranton with the NE corridor, trains go 2 ways, so it may carry the good with the bad right back into Scranton...

Thanks George, you're too funny. Scranton does need major revitalization, the train would possibly be a good idea if Scranton was in better shape. Once the city cleans up it's act, maybe then it would be a good idea. I still don't see how it would benefit the area as a whole unless it had stops all down the valley to Wilkes-Barre.

I worked in Grand Central Terminal for many years and I love that building, it has so much rich history in it. For instance, the Waldorf Astoria had a special entrance for President Roosevelt who was in a wheel chair. The train would pull up to a special elevator and bring him into the hotel so that the public would not see him. I really love trains, in fact will be down in NY this Wednesday. It is great to come back to the moutains for tranquility. Maybe in years to come this might come to fruition, but I hope it is not for some time. And NY you do make a good point, the making of Grand Central is so interesting and so long ago. I would presume that Scranton was not populated like it is now, way back, and so the thought never crossed anyone's mind. Have there been any studies done on this project? I found it also interesting, I believe from another poster that said "hauling garbage" is big business with freight. I guess this will be a great debate pros and cons for a long time to come!

I like Scranton....I just don't like what Scranton seems to be becoming. A corrupt administration driving us into debt, declining public safety, increasing amounts of ghetto trash moving in, and rising crime will turn a once-nice safe city into a hole in the ground....and many of us who grew up here and call Scranton home do not like what is happening...
And I don't hate NYers....I'll welcome anyone who is a law-abiding productive member of society. The only ones I don't like are those who come here to commit crime or to milk the welfare system.

Pine Brook; parts of the Hill close to the UofS; South Side especially around Pittston and Cedar Avenues, the flats, and Valley View and Skyview housing projects; the Weston Field area of North Scranton; and in West Side anything east of Main Ave and also around Jackson and Washburn streets.
There are others, but those stick out in my mind. Most of Scranton is still decent, but the cancer seems to be spreading.

so again.. NYC train - beneficial to the NJ/NY Natives who go to see their families, and their families who will go see them, as well as the handful of commuters and tourists...
SWB/H-Burg Rail - beneficial to NEPA as a whole.

Except you hate NEPA and are moving as soon as you can, right?

Cuts in public safety are killing this city and it's not going to help by bringing a train here. Scranton is right on the line of being close to NYC, yet too far to justify a train. That is why I dislike this city, the short-sightedness of it's officials and the residents who keep voting them in. You're correct in saying about all of the garbage trucks on the road, I see them all the time with Jersey plates. That is the reason for this rail if you read between the lines.

Agree'd the wage tax is bogus in scranton & wilkes barre
I actually have been driving back and forth between wilkes barre and wayne nj every thursday for the last 2 months now.. and i can safely say that 9.5 out of 10 trucks are 18-wheelers from companies like Engalnd and other haulers.. not garbage trucks.
I've been to scranton many times to play at the riverfront sports complex on olive st. and i've even gone as far as to take the pleasure to "tour the city" if you will. I assure you. Not one block in Scranton looks like the Bronx or Harlem. not in a literal sense.. not in a figurative sense. when was the last time you actually visited the bronx or harlem anyway? outside of a yankee game of course.
a train coming to S/W-B is not going to bring garbage anyway.. it's a commuter train!! not a freight train...
