I commuted from Mt. Cobb and then Scranton to Old Bridge and West Orange NJ for over a decade and my dad did it for over 25 years. Just the other day I went to Mine Hill/Hacketstown area of NJ and the trucks were ALL garbage trucks on 380. The trucks will not be going to Wilkes-Barre because the cut off of 80 on to 380 and then to Dunmore and Taylor. You should pay attention a little more.

NEPA recieves almost 100% of the trash from NYC and areas of NJ, its a fact.

Again...A body was missing in Manhattan and they came to Dunmore to look for her because they thought she was dumped in dumpster in NYC.

Again there is absolutely no reason except the $$$$ in the hauling of the municipal waste out of NJ and NY to the Scranton area, for a train to Scranton.

You are seriously kidding yourselves if you think otherwise. Seriously.

Really....Even after I explain that we don't like the way city is being run and don't agree with the people that are running it you still have to reply with some childish remark that honestly is so far off the mark. Your out of line because the three people that you keep referencing have come here and told you the reasons that we don't the like the way the city is being run.

When have any of us said that we hate or dislike the city we live in? and not said that we hate or dislike the way its being run.

As an elected neighborhood leader in the city you have no idea what I have done and been thru in order to help this city and its residents and I honestly find your comments to be out of line and ignorant....Typical though.

I've been to scranton many times to play at the riverfront sports complex on olive st. and i've even gone as far as to take the pleasure to "tour the city" if you will. I assure you. Not one block in Scranton looks like the Bronx or Harlem. not in a literal sense.. not in a figurative sense. when was the last time you actually visited the bronx or harlem anyway? outside of a yankee game of course.

a train coming to S/W-B is not going to bring garbage anyway.. it's a commuter train!! not a freight train...

I have never seen any 18 wheeler garbage trucks. I have only seen one garbage truck since I moved here and it was a commercial truck and not a very large one. I almost forgot how annoying they can be, lol.

See even thought I made the comment I didnt mean to be nasty. I was making an observation on what I read on this forum. When I was typing my statement a few people had put up their replies and I didnt see them before I wrote what I did.

I didnt call anyone by name and meant it as a general observation. But I have read some of your posts about how bad Scranton had become and If I didnt know better I would of thought that it was the worst place in the world to live.
I dont know what you do or dont do in your neighborhood and frankly I dont care. I can say what I like just like you. Sorry you were offended, that wasnt my intention.

As far as this thread:

I have mixed feelings and so far noone has really said anything that made me make up my mind. I dont think a train will ever come about anyway, havent they been talking about this for many years? With the economy the way it is I cannot see them spending that kind of money on something that will not bring in revenue.

You realize that they pack a normal 18 wheeler 53' trailer with compressed cubes of trash don't you? You weren't thinking that they are driving the typical garbage trucks on the interstate were you?

They have large numbers on the back left door and and are labeled on the side in letters about 6" tall that say "municipal waste".

How do you think that the trash from NY and NJ gets here? By plane?

I would say that the majority of the garbage from NYC and NJ ends up here in NEPA. Hence NYCPD looking for the body in Dunmore.

I'll just get some pics next time I'm on the road to NJ.

I did commute everyday for over a decade between Secaucus, The Oranges and Old Bridge and am very familiar with these trucks, trust me.

This poll and thread pretty much explains WHY we should support electric powered rail:

The Age of Cheap and Plentiful Oil is about over.
Plan accordingly.

Huummh......Isn't this your post?

You also realize that the same garbage truck will make up to 3 round trips a day from NJ or NY hauling municipal trash to NEPA.....The rails will make the volume and speed of the garbage delivery very profitable for the landfills here.

I have never seen an 18 wheeler garbage truck, here or anywhere. I only seen roll-off type garbage trucks and I am not sure if they are 18 wheeler or not. I dont care it has nothing to do with this thread, which is about the high speed train, which is a passenger train not a train to haul garbage or anything of that nature. You have started on the garbage not me!

From what I've heard, passenger and freight trains use different rail systems. Has anyone heard that before?
