I have lived here my whole life and have never gone away to school. I honestly think people make the choice to feel how they do about GLBTs. I'm just saying you can be homegrown from here and still appreciate differences in others.

True. I didn't have any problems with people different than myself even before I moved away. I know that there are many friendly people in the area. Interestingly enough, I've run into more friendly, conversational people in Wilkes-Barre than I have in my seemingly nice but apparently snobby neighborhood in NJ. I need to move.

ClariceIm,
Please don't let a few of the comments on here upset you or think this is a bad area because it is not. The people that make the rude comments about gays and lesbians, probably never spent any time trying to get to know any of them.
I have lived in NEPA my whole life - born and raised in a little town between W-B and Scranton - and I know a lot of gay/lesbian couples. The one couple I know even invited my husband and I to their wedding and we were more than happy to be included on their special day. We had a great time at the reception and, not once, did I feel uncomfortable. We have been to their house on numerous occassions for cookouts and both, her and her partner, plus all their friends have always made us feel welcome.
Some of the people in this area still live in the stone age but not everyone here is like that. I am sure where ever you plan to live in NEPA, you will find that most people are friendly and will accept you for who you are.

YOu are all missing my point, The original question was asked, was this area acceptive, As a born and raised here I gave an honest answer to it...As for the "Dry humping" part many of you did not note that I said that it was inappropriate for EVERYONE.....so , I tried to give a true pic of what was to be expected in this valley, dont shoot me.
Im just the piano player.....

Clarice,
As you've indicated in your original post, there are more gay-positive places to live than NEPA. This thread is a pretty good cross-section of what you will find here though--mostly open minded, kind-hearted people who are either accepting or willing to grow into that upon getting to know you; there will be some who imagine that they are more accepting than they actually are, and you will quietly chuckle at their self-presumed open-mindedness; and some who will be perfectly clear about their judgments.
I live in a rural area of NEPA with no problems and lots of community support. There is great love ready for you wherever you find yourself.

It's more useful to say that gay and lesbian couples will find more acceptance in the Democratic-enclave cities like Scranton and Wilkes-Barre than in the strongly-Republican rural areas. There's at least a gay and lesbian culture in the city/suburbs. I suspect some in the rural population would go all Matthew Shephard on the gays if given the chance. There's a reason Twist isn't located somewhere far off in the country like The Grandview.

Sure, but there's also a reason its on 315 far away from residential neighborhoods.
