Like I said, I haven't been there in years. I was just agreeing with Blue and Mag on their experiences there recently. When I went, it seemed like the cages and the general upkeep of the park was dirty. I just didn't get a real good vibe about the animals being handled properly and I guess it hasn't changed much according to them.

Karen I agree about Nay Aug "zoo". That saddened me so much when I took my son and I am NOT a huge animal person. But come on....those poor animals.

CNP just seems dirty to me. I can't put my finger on it. It smells, the animals habitats look unkempt (and I know they are animals, but this is beyond what I've seen at any other zoo) and the animals actually look unhealthy.

What the heck is your problem, paupackprince?

In case you didn't comprehend my message, I one of the ones that posted that I enjoyed Claws n Paws...and I'm not from St. Louis...I've lived here my entire life.

Next time, read the posts more c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y before you turn on your Snarky Response Machine, so you know who's being critical and who's being complimentary.

People need to keep in mind the zoo is in the outdoors, with no paved walks, just a trail through the woods. This can help to give that "dirty" look to the animal habitats...not cages. Also, the animals there are very well taken care of. They have an excellent staff of zoo keepers who have experience and education needed to give these animals everything they need. My source...I happen to know several of the zookeepers there.

I have to agree with the people who had a positive experience there. We took our daughters (9 and 6) and they had a blast. We fed the birds, pet the turtles, feed the giraffe, pet and fed the goats... I agree that the "woodsy trail" through the zoo might give the "feeling" that the place was dirty, but I would disagree. The animals seemed no different than any animals I have seen at other zoos.

The reason the zoo seems dirty is because the animals are well cared for in a fairly natural enviroment. The animals I feel sorry for are the ones in the big city zoos, that have to live on concrete. I cant believe people are comparing a small family owned zoo to big city owned zoos. How totally ridiculous. When I was a little girl growing up on Long Island my school would do class rips to the Bronx zoo, but that only lasted a few years, the parents wouldnt let the kids go anymore saying that there was too many "human animals" on the outside of the cages. At least we dont have to worry about that here.
