Looking for a Weekend Getaway
Thinking about going up to NY for a day or two while my husband is home on R&R. I know that because he has the blood of a fisherman, he would love to see some water. Any ideas on where we could go for a short trip while we can? He'll be here for two weeks in the beginning-middle of September! We live in Vandling now and I haven't done much exploring because I have two small kids, but I'd like to do something while he's here, but not TOO far!

The Finger Lakes in NY are gorgeous, and only about 3 hours away.

The Finger Lakes are perfect. I suggest Hammondsport at the south end of Keuka Lake. index You can do boating, swimming or visit some of the many wineries Finger Lakes Wine Country A nice day trip is over to Watkins Glen to see the gorge - Watkins Glen State Park We lived in the Finger Lakes for four long winters but the summers were absolutely wonderful.

The winters were long and brutal, especially for someone like me who was used to everything being shut down at the sign of the first snowflake. Also at the two houses we lived at, both had wood heat. We lived in a rural area too so no tv, malls, etc. Sure made us appreciate visitors and the Spring....
Winters notwithstanding, the Finger Lakes region is absolutely stunning - I'm looking forward to visiting RIT with my youngest son so we can show him how pretty it is.
