The only major employer in the NEPA area is Sanofi Pasteur, maker's of the flu vacccine, located in Swiftwater, the heart of Poconos. Otherwise, there are no other major players. Not an easy company to get hired by. They only hire through Manpower and then only as a temp. If you perform well then eventually full-time and permanent.

They use the one that's located on Rt. 611 on the northbound side diagonally across from Smuggler's Cove Restaurant. It's a little strip mall there.

Do the schools and hospitals not pay well? What about the county as in the courthouses of say PenDot? I wonder, does it matter "where" in the Poconos you are?

Default wages in the Poconos ha ha ha ha

When I moved from LI to the Poconos about 11 years ago, I had no idea what the job situation was. I was in for quite a shock and my self esteem went down the tubes. I found that not only do the companies pay poorly but they treat you like you are garbage. They seem to get away with alot of underhanded and unethical actions. I can be quite specific if anyone is really intertested.
United Envelope is a dirt bag place to work. My son worked there for over a year and hated it.
I worked at several places, one of them being Aventis but as a contracted out security person. People that were temps there told me that they would get them from manpower and keep them for a few years and when the time was up, let them go. Never did I speak to anyone that got permanent status. It was cheaper for Aventis to pay the temp agency and not suppy benefits or any other full time perks then to hire.
Don't know about the hospitals but knew someone that worked for housekeeping and made about $7.50 an hour. Schools? Well even the teachers are paid very low wages. Bus drivers were making about $10 an hour but the risk on those roads in the winter and the element of kids from PCP made it way not worth it.
I finally found a job that paid well and had great benefits. Tons of respect, great procedures and policies, and room to climb the ladder. I found a corp that is nation wide. Able to transfer anywhere. Recourse if treated unfairly. It only took about 7 years to figure that one out!
Be forewarned- the job situation in the Poconos will put you into major culture shock.
Good luck!
