Default Boat Rental - Lake Wallenpaupack

Help - we couldn't come up with any ideas of how to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday party - until we decided to rent a boat for the day (or part of the day). Sounded like a great idea until we realized that we will have 11 adults and one 7 yr old boy - and we think we will be over the 1800 lb. supposed weight limit.

Questions - how strict are they with this weight limit? Will they weigh us as we get on? I know that sounds ridiculous, but I don't know what our options are. These attendees are non-negotiable - what do we do? Should I mention it when I call to reserve the boat? Would getting two smaller pontoon boats be an alternative? At the lake, is there a picnic area we could drop people off at and pick people up - you know, taking turns?

What should we do? The rental people seem real laid back. No cancellation fee or anything. Of course all of this is null and void if the weather is bad - then it's just the same old people with the same old food back at the house (at least the house is new, well not new but it's new to us, we've only been here 2 months).

It's also my son's 21st birthday two days before his Dad - so it's kind of like a combo party.

There is Mangan Cove across from the dam - a terrific beautiful picnic area there. Mangan Cove is nice because it's a free public boat launch area...

I think Ledgedale has a picnic area too - but Mangan Cove might be more accessible/ more flat when the landlubbers try to get to the picnic area (but I'm not sure, as I really only have driven by the Ledgedale access.

I do not think it would be wise at all to go over the weight limit. Danger Will Robinson! We've already had at least 3 deaths on Lake Wally this year; let's not go for more!

Maybe you can charter two boats? Karen is right...we wouldn't want to see a fun-filled ocassion turn tragic.

You need most likely 2 boats. I have a 25ft and only allowed 15 max. As laid back as the rentals are, they will strictly enforce the limit, and so will law enforcement. And Karen is right, we had 2 accidents that I know of this weekend with 2 jet skiers.
