Planning to relocate to Berwick or nearby
Hello! I am offered a job somewhere in Berwick. I am new to the place and hardly knows anything about it. Research on the internet helps but it would be more useful coming from the locals or those who lived in these areas for long. With my hub and elementary kid, we would like a place near Berwick with a good school, low crime, less natural disasters, lower cost of living, affordable rent.. I saw on the map that there are so many towns and boroughs surrounding it, I am just at a loss which is the best area to choose. We come from Northeast as well in a rural area. Please help. Many thanks!

Hello, if someone can give me some advice I would appreciate It very much, I have a Job opp In Berwick inwhich the pay is nice and cost of liveing is much lower in PA comopared to whare I am at now. This nuke power plant is a big factor even though we will live like in Bloomsberg. How are things in that area and even though I understand with the epa and all that things are not the same as in like the 70s and 80s Is there any advice on how will it be if We move there sometime soon?

Not sure if you have already made your move, I haven't been on this board in a very long time. I have lived in Berwick my whole life, 28 years so far! I live in East Berwick and it is a great part of town that I live in. While there is some crime, which you will find anywhere you go, I have never been afraid nor have we ever had any crime happen to us or our large family.
I won't go into a bunch of info unless you have not moved yet and still are seeking info. Might I ask where you got a job at?
Blessings!

You mentioned Bloomsburg. That is a wonderful community with great schools. In town you have the Bloomsburg schools themselves, and between Bloomsburg and Berwick there is Central Columbia School District.
There are many places in town and in the rural areas surrounding town. Since you mentioned affordable rent your best bet may be in town. However, be aware of college student housing and river flooding. Check with a local realtor, who can steer you away from problem areas and probably help you locate a nice rental.
Best wishes!!

I have a good friend who has lived in Berwick her entire life. She says it's nice, very slooooow lifestyle, rents are very inexpensive (I guess on-par as you're getting what you pay for), and you can purchase a house for a lot less than in a larger area.
The downside is that there isn't much for kids to do there, so there is a lot of drug use (hard drugs) and alcohol use among the teens, as well as smoking and getting into trouble. Berwick is also kind of far from "civilization" and the closest malls/big stores are a good 30-45 minute drive (and that's not too fun if you're in desperate need of something and it's snowing!)
Even though your job offer is in Berwick, have you considered a surrounding area to live --- one that's a bit less rural?
