Do you know whats involved with getting PA teaching certification..i heard that I would have to take a test?? Do you know about anything else?? We are still trying to work out the #'s, but we are totally sick of the high cost of living on LI!! We are a big family...... Its just not fair for all of us mid-classer's!! WE'd like OUR kids to some day be able to afford a house...it's not going to happen on LI!!

Hi .......there are quite a few LI people moving to Pa. I know the taxes there are quite overboard. I do pay almost 6 here, but at least we have large land lots and great views and other things cost a lot less.
I would stay out of most of the communities. I say most because there are some very nice ones around if you do a good search. Also, if you can take the lack of independence that goes along with that. Your home colors, where you can plant and place things. Fees for assessments of new community needs. Someone telling you what you can do or not......
As far as sub teaching. Expect eight dollars an hour or there abouts.......
From one of your weekly checks expect that a tax for some odd item gets taken out at 52.00 and then .........whew........what a small check that is.
We hear that teachers have a hard time getting a job. Why? That is hard to say because new schools arrise in the morning like a rooster crowing.......
Don't expect any wages that will compare with NY or NJ in anyway.
That is just not happening in Pa.......a sad and continual battle.
But........Pa is a wonderful place to live, with plenty to do for your children.
If they love the outdoors, then this is the state to be in.
Best of luck to you.........Summering

Tobyhanna Tobyhanna Tobyhanna...
Hi,
The more I try to figure out Tobyhanna, the more confused I get. When I map homes on Realtor.com, it seems to be very large area. I know A Pocono Country Place has had its share of problems, but is ALL of Tobyhanna bad? Everything with a Tobyhanna address? Are there zip codes that are specifically bad? The reason I ask is that it seems by the maps that Tobyhanna surrounds Lake Naomi and some other great communities. I don't want to knock out an entire township because APCP is bad.
Please help! Feel free to email me personally at michele@michelepyle.com.
Thanks!

HI,
DO you know by any chance what subs in the local districts make, per diem??
I'm just curious. You said to keep away from most communities?? Any you WOULD recommend? Truthfully We are not looking for a HUGE house..i 've seen some that offer 3000+ square foot...we are NOT looking for that..maybe in the low 2000 sq ft range, even less, as long as its workable and we could add on if we needed.....thanks..

I'll help or confuse you even more but. . . . Tobyhanna is both a township and a town in Monroe county. Note that the town of Tobyhanna is located in Coolbaugh township, Monroe county.
The township of Tobyhanna contains towns such as Blakeslee, Pocono lake and Pocono Pines and is a nice, fine NEPA township.

I hate to be even MORE confusing with the Tobyhanna comments, but the Tobyhanna area is split into Tobyhanna Township and Coolbaugh Township. There is no "town" (we call them "boroughs" in PA) of "Tobyhanna." My ex-boyfriend lives in Pocono Farms-East, attended Pocono Mountain-West, has a Mt. Pocono mailing address, and claimed to live in Tobyhanna! Monroe County is a VERY confusing place! Methinks whoever planned out the municipal boundaries must have resembled this:
Here's a countywide municipal map of Monroe County that I thought I had posted elsewhere in this thread, but perhaps I didn't:
