thanks. . . . I'd like to find that county map superimposed over towns/villages/boroughs/unincorporated areas of Monroe County. Also Tobyhanna Township - About Us gives a clarification at the bottom highlight (where they refer to tobyhanna as a town. )

My home town in Lackawanna starts there teachers at just under 40,000. I believe it is around 38900 or 39500 to start. Not too bad for a small town school.

You have to look at it this way.. As a sub in Pa, you are just following someone else work and you go home. You are not the one doing all the work after you come home form work to prepare for the week.. etc. That does seem really low for NY.
If you have any other teach questions, I can help you out... Just an FYI, jobs are very political. Subbing is a sure thing. They need them.

That's great! My own sister started at around $33,000 at a public school district in Luzerne County. She's obtaining additional college credits towards her Master's Degree, after which her salary will probably be in the $40,000 range.

We have a family member who is subbing.........Ok it started in the $8.00 range. After you get so many hours in it goes up. She just told someone who gasped at her responce.....she is now at 11.26 cents per hour. ( ok I might have the cents a bit off, but the dollars are accurate. )She can also specialize as she is a Spanish teacher.
It is going per hour and sometimes a school day is about 6 to 7 hours.
One check had a one time tax off of it......the final total of that check.....was a laugh. She mailed us a copy......we all were stunned.
( sorry for the delay I am away from home......)

I'm just curious. You said to keep away from most communities?? Any you WOULD recommend? Truthfully We are not looking for a HUGE house..i 've seen some that offer 3000+ square foot...we are NOT looking for that..maybe in the low 2000 sq ft range, even less, as long as its workable and we could add on if we needed.....thanks..

Sorry for the delay.......I am away.......For a community I would pick.
Lake Naomi, first.......
Then Emerald Lakes second......
Blue Mt. Lake ......Is not all that bad either. It is a climb up the hill but, a good community. Nice pool, and pretty lake........I worry it will end up like Penn Estates......so that gives me a question on that direction.
Very pretty though. Good commute area.
Hope this helps........
For schools to work at I like the Pleasant Valley Schools very much, along with others who feel it is a great school system.
Hope this helps.

That must be the ridiculous $52 EMS tax that is now levied by most municipalities in order to provide adequate emergency services for those with the "privilege" of working in their township, borough, or city, even though most communities who enact it don't enhance their police or fire departments anyways. That tax was such a rip-off. Wilkes-Barre Township levied it against its low-wage retail grunts, most of whom were semi-retirees or college students (like myself), and in exchange we had cops who wouldn't direct traffic during "crunch" times and high blood pressure from seeing the township handing out TAX REFUNDS to its senior citizens at the same time as WE were struggling to pay the $52 EMS tax!

summering & mrs fish12
thanks for your replies....Summering, I will check out those communities...Let you know if I see anything nice...
mrsfish..as far as subbing, yes that's probably what I will do, don't want the aggravation and planning of a regular classroom, subbing is ideal..really!
Also, with a regular position, I may need additional testing/etc.. to get PA certified...I already have my masters degree and life certification with NYS, so I hate to have to go through another whole ordeal in PA...

HI Summering
Hi again,
just checked out those 3 developments you mentioned....
Lake Naomi looked BEAUTIFUL..really nice, but homes in our price range were very "vacation" home looking..do people live their year round??
Emerald Lakes I couldn't find anything..again looked vacationey?? I saw a few really nice homes in Blu Mtn lakes...but the website for the actual development was "cheesy" and didn't give alot of info...do you know what school districts those developments are in??
Thanks again for your help..I appreciate all the info
