Hi MollyMe and I Love Pa........I agree too.
But, sometimes these words go on deaf ears.
A home is never more important than ones family. Never, ever, would I have taken a job more then 10 or 15 minutes from my home.
Children have emergencies, things happen at school, there are needs of transportation.
If I had to do things all over again, I'd feel the same way.
Having a huge home in the Poconos means nothing......to the well-being of ones family.
The commute is too long into NY. Sometimes it has happened where a bus only gets to the DWG and then, no further through the storm. You might not get home.
I'd never leave my kids to fend for themselves. That just wouldn't happen.
I know of one suffering family, whos dogs spend the entire day in a garage. Who's kids are run up and down the highway at 4AM and back home 8PM. Everyone of the kids needs help now.........and they wonder why?
I'd never have a dog to leave it in a garage for 15 hours while I commute either.
What is wrong with the picture? Can't anyone see..........

Absolutely...it's hard enough having 2 working parents, at least one of those parents needs a job where they can leave at a moments notice for the needs of their children. I'm greatful to have a job like that, with an understanding employer. Kids get sick at school...what would you do if you were in Manhattan?? I can't even imagine how you would make this work, unless you hired a full time nanny...and then what is the point of having children if someone else is raising them?

My daughter could have a fantastic paying job right now. I might add she left one when her twins were born.
She was asked to go back there. She is not........
Instead she does a subsitute teaching job, that she can work the days her husband is off. Or work at the school her boys are when he is not off. They bend for her to even be late, to get her boys on the bus. She also only took schools within 10 min. from home. She can say no.....and stay home with them when they are sick. No, when she wants to take them places. Plus, she has the summer off with them and holidays.
I guess she is making 10 times less an hour then she would at the jobs wanting her.
But.........family first.
She took the smaller home of the neighborhood so as not to have a high mortgage. Even though she could have opted for more.
Its family first, find a job close to your work, then a home that you can afford........there. Be it smaller or not.
I'd say people who want to work in NYC, should go no further then Rockaway or Denville NJ.......thats a bit far also, but better then the commute to Pa.

Hey Molly And I Love Pa
HEY,
Yeah u really gave it to SWN..all she was lookin' for was a lil' info on the pocono area and u jumped all over her..
although..I, too couldn't see 2 parents commuting into NYC and leaving 2 kids in PA..its true..things happen..on both ends and bottom line those kids could be in a desperate situation....and as a parent I know I would be frantic if I couldn't get there/be there when they needed.
AS far as us..my husband would do the commute thing..and I'll hopefully sub teach, like I do now..so I can be there when my kids needed me...
WE are putting our house up soon..hopefully we'll sell our house here quickly..although I know the market is not good?...anyone lookin to buy on LI..hahha??

MollyMe, What do you know about Wilkes-Barre, PA? I live in Minnesota and am moving to the area next summer and will be looking for a job. My current job is similar to a Legal Secretary's for a National Union. Do you have a clue what companies I could target for a job?

I know sometimes words sound strong. Really, sometimes it is frustration, that so many seem to want to do that now. Then the schools suffer, and the kids suffer.....it becomes a vicious circle. Kids walk out of class, they know no one is home to care, then they don't care.....on and on.
I know in one of these threads a doctor who said he couldn't live in a place where people just leave their kids and work as far away as the City.
He also told us he couldn't live in a community that would be that way.
No one knew where to tell him to move to, it is so darn wide spread.
Being a sub is good. You can work your days and hours to be home.
Sometimes I hear people who think they will come here and get a job like they have in the city.
We get so much less in wages, it doesn't pan out......they are dreaming big dreams.
I think its because the question comes up a lot, and it really is so hard to hear......knowing full well what lies ahead for these kids and the family.
