We were still in DE for the Valentine's snow this past winter. York County really got nailed as well from that one.

We came up here and started looking around a couple of weeks later. Actually the ice on top of the snow made looking at the houses a bit easier. It was still here, so we were able to walk on top of it.

As long as there's not a necessary run to the hospital up 115, I guess were OK.

The mail isn't delivered here. I had no idea there was such a thing with the USPS. Not only is it not delivered, we need to pay for a post office box and go to pick it up. Not the friendliest folks there. I guess they get frustrated by seasonal folks who don't get their mail and it piles up. I hear they just pitch it....even first class stuff.

We were told about a situation a couple of years ago. There was no power here for six days. Hummm? That could be interesting. We are looking into getting a generator system.

I lived very rurally for over 20 years. Sometimes we were better off in a storm. We could get water from the spring head, heated with wood and were prepared to take care of ourselves. When I was widowed and moved back to the 'big city', there was a major storm forecasted. I filled the bathtubs with water. Duh? City water. Didn't need to do that. LOL!

I am originally from Long Island also. I moved up to PA about 20 years ago. The reason we moved and a lot of others moved was the taxes and traffic were getting too much on LI. The cost of living is higher, but the jobs are better and there's more of them so there's the tradeoff. Look at how much higher the gas prices are in NY than they are here in PA. So a lot of people do move here because of financial issues. Sounds like manny is very bitter and has a chip on his shoulder and should just quit posting if he's going to insult everyone on this forum.

The beauty of the poconos brings us here. The larger land lots, spaciousness.....Looking out at the glorious mountains .( as Molly does too) Having a corn field to my right.....complete woods in the back.
So much less traffic. What is also wonderful is that we can get to the city if we want that action, or if we want a Broadway show in just a small amount of time. We can also get to an ocean within hours.
In other words, we have it all........
It doesn't mean we hate the states we left. I love certain areas of NJ with all my heart. We just love this better. Simple as that

Rockky, You are so funny..........Really, you had no power for six days. You must be further up on the mountain plateau. I havn't lost power for more then an hour at the most . I am at the lowest area of route 115.
My driveway is so long that I really have to get supplies if it snows.
Then again, we try to be in those Southern places during winters.
Being cooped up is not the least fun.

From here we tend to go to the Wind Gap KMart or further down to 248 for Walmart, Sams, Wegmans, the Cinemas, plus Boscovs and Bon ton which I love. Childrens Place is there also........a favorite for buying those grandkids.
Once in NJersey I was snowed in three days, hubby was working for Ma Bell and the snow was sky high. I kept the wood stove going and it gave us great heat, even cooked on the darn thing. But, that was slow going for sure.

Yeah, izzy, it is. How old is this particular store?

I needed to make a quickie run to get some gardening stuff a few weeks ago. They didn't have any stock. I also looked around in housewares. Not nearly as much stock as the stores I'm used to. I should say that I avoid WalMart when I can, but the York, PA and Dover, DE stores are all larger.

In fairness, I ran across the street to KMart for the gardening stuff. They didn't have it either. All I wanted was a little digger. Nothing exotic.

Summering, I know about that long driveway trick. We called ours a 'lane' at the farm.

It wasn't unusual to take a couple of days to try to dig our way out of there. That huge snow we had about 10 years ago....took us nearly a week. Of course the entire state was closed for that one.

Guess we are 'up the mountain'. Copying the 'down the beach' phrase.

Yes, Hubby has to attach a plow to the lawn tractor to do the driveway.
I had to shovel it once when the tractor brokedown midway. That was not so much fun. Lucky the neighbors came to my rescue at the hardened snow at the bottom. Hugs to them.........( Pa people are the BEST)
I think the Walmart in Pocono is small too. My favorite one is in Easton on 248. We usually stop in there on our way to the Regal theaters.
By the way rockky, I will be "down the beach" at DE way starting tomorrow.
Hoping it is a bit warmer then we are expecting here.

It just goes to show how this forum is just based on opinions.....the Easton Walmart is bigger than the one in Mt Pocono? I was thinking what a dinky store the one in Easton was, and also pretty old. Go figure. I know they were renovating it, but it had reminded me too much of the old Ames stores. To each his own I guess.

I use to think that Stroudsburg was nice and huge. Loved shopping for groceries there. Its just way, too crowded for my comfort now. I bet Easton and Pocono are about the same now that Easton expanded. The old Ames you say, huh.......
