Default Wilkes-Barre Nightlife/Restaurants

Sorry if this is any inappropriate place to ask for advice, but I couldn't find any active Scranton/Wilkes-Barre traveler's forums. I'm currently booked at the Ramada as a stopping point for a trip from Boston to State College. I'm wondering what there is in terms of bars and restaurants in downtown Wilkes-Barre, as much of the info online appears to be outdated. I'm in my mid-20s, and tend to go for places that attract a college/post-college crowd. I also tend to go to places with good drink specials, but at times I'm a foodie as well. I'm wondering what sort of good restaurants are in the area for a late dinner and what sort of bars/clubs are within walking distance from my hotel. I'm not really picky (I'm down with sports bars, pubs, and clubs), but I'd rather be somewhere that are active that in a more local corner bar when I'm on the road.

I saw Old Tyme Charlie's recommended on another site; is this place still open and does it fit the needs that I've described? I saw a website for Mardi Gras Club, but I read somewhere else that it's now closed. I'd appreciate any thoughts from those in the know.

Thanks.

You will be right in the heart of downtown and in walking distance to many bars and clubs. Check out Rodano's right across Public square form the Ramada for late night food. There is Oyster restaraunt, Thai Thai, Hottle's Seafood, Cafe Toscana, Katana Hibachi. But if you just want simple bar grub, wings and pizza check out Rodano's, it is a nice bar/restaraunt with all the basic bar grub. Just take a walk down south main street, you have The Hardware Bar (college bar/girls dancing on the bar like Coyote Ugly), Bourbon Street Saloon (more chill college bar), Reflex (dance club), Manual Fats (rock and roll live music), Club Luna (club), Bart and Urby's (up scale bar with good food but cheap),( all of these cater to college/post college kids. You can find everything your looking for in the first block of South Main, and you'll be right across the way from it. No driving to worry about. Down the other side of the street, North Main, you have Senunas' ( laid back college bar), Gonda's (small college bar), Gage (haven't been there yet), The Mines (dance club known for trouble). South Main street is more hoppin' while North main street is more laid back.

That's very helpful. If anyone else has thoughts I'd love to hear them. What sort of drive should I expect from Wilkes-Barre to State College on a game day? 2+ hours?

Yeah about 2 plus on a regular day. For a game day, I'd imagine a little bit more.
