Now only if Scranton were so lucky... But hey congrats to Doherty (purest sarcasm there).

You could look it at that way or you could look at it that many Luzerne County voters lack critical thinking skills.

I completely disagree with you. Good judge or bad judge is not the point. The point is Peter Paul did nothing to blow the whistle, or say anything about his "buddies" Conahan and Ciaverella. This guy is a very intellegent man, he is not one of those mentally unstable dudes that sits on Public Square all day drulling all over himself. He was the District Attorney for Christ Sakes! Where his job was to be suspicious of wrongdoing and prosecute it! Does anyone really belive that this guy took a very expensive private jet to Jupiter, Florida ( one of America's most ultra wealthy communities), stayed in a very lavish condo, and it never crossed his mind that "Yeah, this is funny, I am a judge that makes the same amount of money as Conahan...Why can't I afford anything close to this?" Didn't he ever think that something was wrong with this picture? He is a very bright man that passed the BAR exam, and was a district attorney. I voted him out, and I voted him out because he turned a blind eye to obvious wrongdoing, and if he actually is stupid enough to not have any idea that something was amiss, then frankly he is to stupid to be a judge. So he lost my respect either way. This county needs a hero, someone who will stand up and be a man, and fight against corruption, not someone who is afraid, or doesn't want to make waves, or stand up against his "buddies" Conahan and Ciaverella...go along to get along guy. I don't care if he himself is the most straight and narrow, ethical judge to ever be in the courthouse, the fact that he did absolutely nothing, while these kids were being locked up for money speaks volumes, and so did the picture of him in Florida partying with Conahan and a convicted coke dealer. When we needed a hero...he did zero! And he got exactly what he deserves. This is how I feel about it, and judging from the poll results, so does the majority of people in Luzerne County. I love democracy! Don't let the door hit you in the --- Peter Paul!

All that may be very true.

Doesn't diminish his record on the bench and it doesn't diminish how much protection this man gave this county via his judgments.

I guess if frying him for not catching on is the de rigueur, then yeah, you did a great thing.

OTOH, if understanding that a man can be more than one thing, if understanding that this man *may* have known about this but didn't say anythign yet still upheld the law FAIRLY, welll...it was a sad day for Luzerne County yesterday......

IMO, you're missing something. If he was such a good judge, then he should have known better. If I were a resident of Luzerne County, which I am not at this point in my life, I definately would expect better from my elected officials, and especially from sitting judges and former district attorneys who are supposed to be 'good' and 'honorable' and who I expect to know better.

I also agree with the previous comments. How could someone described as a good, hard working judge and former district attorney, who was supposedly on top of his game, not know something was rotten? To believe that means either a.) he knew/suspected and did nothing, or b.) did not know. If it's b, he's not so good and he deserved to be let go, even sooner that the election. If it's a, he should be held accountable. Just like all the other players who kept quiet about it.

Luzerne County deserves and NEEDS better then Peter Paul. The reason Conahan and Ciaverella were able to pull off this eloborate scheme, and get away with it for so long was because literally hundreds of very intellegent people including D.A.'s, lawyers, counselers ect. just simply failed to do anything. They were afraid to open their mouths, and didn't want to make waves. So they shamefully allowed these two monsters to get away with this. All it takes for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing, and thats exactly what happened here. I don't care if Peter Paul himself was the best judge that ever walked the face of earth. The fact that he didn't have the ethical and moral balls to stand up and do something about what evil his good buddies Conahan and Ciaverella were doing is more then enough reason to be booted out. We need people that are not only good and moral themselves, but are willing to put thier jobs and butts on the line when something is wrong. Like I said, we need hero's who are willing to stand up and fight corruption and evil at all cost, Peter Paul was a coward who was to afraid to do anything. And he payed for it with his job and career.

I voted for Tina Polachek Gartley. I think the courthouse needs more intellegent woman. I am a man, and I hate to say this, but I feel men are more likely to "fall in line" and go along to get along even when there is something blatantly wrong (just like peter Paul did). I think a strong minded independent woman is much more likely to speak out against this sort of behaviour, and blow the whistle, then one of the boys. At this point I am very skeptical of everybody, but from what I see so far Tina Gartley looks like she will be a good judge. I really hope so. I am at the point where I'd like to see an actual internal affairs dept. set up at the courthouse, and it's sole perpose would be to investigate, and audit all the courthouse departments randomly on a regular basis, investigate the time cards, make sure everyone is abiding by the law. The Luzerne County courthouse has proven over and over again that it cannot abide by the law. Luzerne County courthouse needs a babysitter.

So basically what you are saying is if you're co-worker is say, embezzling money, and you didn't know or weren't sure and they get in trouble, you're arse should be on the line too?

That doesn't sit right with me.
