SWB, a suggestion for your next photo tour, where ever it may be. How about taking a few pictures of the ugly buildings. While I love looking at all of the great architecture in the cities/towns/burgs you visit. We all know that not every building looks like those you photograph. In the interests of balance, perhaps you should snap a few shots of the Bad and the Ugly to go with the Good. Sometimes the people living in those architectural gems are staring across the street at an abomination against good taste.
If only one home on a block is a beauty, and the rest are ugly, that photo of the one attractive building doesn't truly convey what that neighborhood is like. This would be a boon to those of us who will not be traveling up NEPA way anytime soon.

Agreed. I've actually been pondering a "blight-only" photo tour for both Scranton and Wilkes-Barre in the upcoming months to show the "ugly" sides of these cities. While I often champion how much of a revival they are currently undergoing, there are still plenty of blemishes to take in. I thought it might be neat to compare the thriving suburban areas to the decaying blighted inner-city neighborhoods to showcase what I call the "Krispy Kreme Effect" in which our urban cores have emptied out like donut holes while the suburban fringes have coated themselves over in gooey growth like the confectionary part of the famed glazed donut. This is especially prevalent in the Hill Section, where some of those prized historic streets I photographed (North Webster Avenue, Clay Avenue, Taylor Avenue, etc.) are just a few blocks away from blighted rowhomes. There are some seedier-looking older homes in South Side as well that exemplify "urban poverty." I might also snap some images of the low-income housing projects in each city.
Thanks for the suggestion! Places like Jim Thorpe, Milford, Waverly, Clarks Summit, and Tunkhannock truly did not have any "ugly" areas to them, but Scranton and Wilkes-Barre certainly do have some very slummy, scummy, trashy blocks that just ooze potential from every pore!

Bump! I just want to see this poll get a few more votes before I head out on Monday for my next tour. As of right now it's a tie between Wayne and Luzerne Counties, and I want that tie to be broken!

I'm voting yet again for Nanticoke Paul . We're hoping to fly up to the area this summer to look around.

Once you've tried a fresh, warm Krispy Kreme, you'll never go back to Dunkin Donuts
