Hey everyone! My family is taking a trip to the Poconos this summer and we were wondering if anyone had suggestions of "can't miss" things to do. We are really laid back and love to wander. We would like to go into NYC for at least one day, and wondered what the best way to go about that would be. Is there a commuter train we should look into? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

You can get a NJ Transit train from Port Jervis, which is about 20 mins or so past Milford. That's how I go into the "CITY" when I go.

Can't miss stuff depends on your interests. Lots of fun things to look into:

SCRANTON: Houdini Museum
LAKE WALLENPAUPACK: Claws n Paws Wild Animal Park
STROUDSBURG: Quiet Valley Historical Farm
SCRANTON: Lackawanna Coal Mine Museum
DINGMANS FERRY: Childs Park - beautiful and I mean beautiful FREE waterfalls to see
HAWLEY: Dorflinger Glass Museum
HONESDALE: Downtown, pretty little town! Normal Rockwell could have lived here....
MILFORD: Grey Towers, Columns Museum
LACKAWAXEN: Zane Grey Museum & Roebling Bridge
DELAWARE RIVER: Drive north on Rt 97 from Port Jervis along the "Hawks Nest" for a fantabulous view
SCRANTON: Steamtown Museum
STROUDSBURG: Go see a show at the Sherman Theater. Town is pretty too.
LAKE WALLENPAUPACK: go water skiing or boating on the area's largest motorboat lake - 5,700 acres

Lots of good info here:
