Default Forbes: Cities Where Americans are Getting Richer...NEPA is NOT high on this list.

Full List: Cities Where Americans Are Getting Richer - Forbes.com

No surprise that we're not anywhere near the top of this list. Salaries in NEPA are downright pitiful and I don't know how some people support themselves on the measly wages employers in this area pay. However, the Lehigh Valley was pretty high on this list, ranked 8th.

The really pathetic thing is that Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has the second lowest 2009 median pay among all of the metro areas polled....barely beating out depressing Youngstown, OH.

Yeah but isn't the pay to cost of living still pretty good? I mean say you might make $100,000 at Dunder Mifflin world headquarters in NYC but if you made say $40,000 as the Scranton branch manager your probably still ahead in NEPA.

Happy Holidays!

Scranton ranks closer to the bottom of the list in alphabetical listing of cities in the US. When can we expect that thread?

This forum has become a real joke of late.

Houses may be cheap around here, but its near impossible to make ends meet on the average wage of 9 or 10 bucks an hour in this area, nevermind make a down payment on even a cheap house....and those cheaper houses usually need work, which isn't going to be feasible on the wages around here.

Read my first post, $9 or $10 an hour doesn't equal $40,000 a year, more like $20,000.

But $40,000 salaries are not the norm in NEPA. You're doing pretty well if you can get a $40,000 a year job in this area.

i agree and rent wise--the lower the rent the trashier the place--i am so tired of hearing that "you have to know someone before you can get a nice rental at a reasonable rate"----

but i bet the area tops the list for largest amount of white collar criminals(both known and unknown), worst customer service, and the "better beware someone will steal the shoes off your feet category"--
