School Policy
I am an 18 year old male still in high school and that means I am of legal age. But the real thing I need to know is, Now that I am of legal age ,I should now be able to sign my own leave forms for oppintments to leave school, Correct! Then why if I am of legal age am I not allowed to get my own brown card to go to the doctors. The school jumped down my case and said we need a parents permission? I could sign myself as a dropout out of school but i cant go to the doctors from school with out a parents perssion! That is against a students rights of 18 . If you have any comments please leave me what you think i should do about this issue!

I'm going to be completely blunt.
Suck it up.
Age doesn't make you a responsible adult, behavior & attitude are also part of it
From your post, you are acting immature, like a little kid who isn't getting the correct flavor of ice cream--shut up ---you're getting ice cream aren't you. What do you got 3 weeks of school left!??! Take advantage of the education that is free and available to you.
Get back into a real relationship with your parents or guardians. And play the card you were dealt with in life.
The school is looking out for the best interest of the student regardless of your age.
good luck to you. I hope you have plans for college and work. Knock the chip off your shoulder. Smile and its not a big deal getting a note, really, is it that hard to get a parent to sign a paper.

Twelve years of school and that's your idea of an OP? I'm sorry your teachers failed you so badly.

Relax, people.
I think you're being a little harsh on the poor guy. He's bringing up a good point: If he can drop out of school, why can't he sign himself out for medical appointments? He's 18 and therefore reached the legal "age of majority" to make all decisions for himself. I think the school policy is wrong. It's not like allowing him to sign himself out would be a license to skip. They could still require proof of a doctor's appointment, including a note and possibly confirmation on the telephone with a receptionist (although not sure if that latter part is legal).

Please stay in school. Just hang in there. You won't get a decent job if you drop out, and even if you eventually get a GED there's still a social stigma attached (unfortunately).
What grade are you in? If you're old enough to be asking the question you can't have too many more years to go. Just hang in there. We'll be pulling for you!!

I think 18 is the age that you can do it without a parent/guardian's permission. It should be spelled out in the school handbook.
DON'T do it though! I'm having issues with my daughter not going to school at 18 & even got her into an evening program that is affiliated with her HS so she could graduate. Unfortunately she's 18 & thinks she knows it all & stopped going & has now been kicked out.
So much is stacked against you if you don't finish school, especially in these economic times. If there is a problem, go to the principal & discuss options & issues. If that person is worth their position, he/she will work with you. If you have to, look into cyber-charter schools. Don't do anything drastic before that.
I'm done preaching now & stepping down from my soapbox.
