Why is that insane? Many government entities have residency requirements for their employees. It is not uncommon.

I can see why a PA legislator doesn't like this - it will cut down on the the amount of NJ people living in PA and working in NJ - and paying PA taxes. The NJ people make up a big part of the PA tax base.

I can understand why NJ wants the benefit of NJ jobs to stay with NJ residents. Kinda stinks for the people w/ state jobs living in PA and getting lower taxes, though.

NJ state employees should have to live in NJ. PA state employees are required to live in PA. I'm shocked that NJ allows its state employees to live and pay taxes to another state.

When the tax dollars paid in by the taxpayers of NJ are paying the salaries of the employees of the state of NJ, it would seem reasonable to expect that some of those monies would be returned to the state in the form of tax dollars. Yes, it stinks for the folks getting lower taxes by living in PA, but it's the price One must pay when the employer mandates where you must live.

Also to be considered, the cost of commuting must eat up some of the savings gleaned through lower taxes. And the time spent commuting should also be factored in, since Time, after all, is money.

So perhaps the reason for living in PA while working for the state of NJ is more for the aesthetics than for the economic savings.

You can still live in NJ and enjoy the scenery...Northwest NJ is as scenic as the Poconos. I'm pretty sure they're just trying to avoid the taxes (the taxes that fund their jobs, yet.)

Please 99.9% of those that move from NJ to PA are here to purely avoid inflated NJ property taxes... I think this is good thing.

Most NJ state jobs are located in the State Capital, Trenton. Trenton is directly across the Deleware from Morrisville, PA. My mother worked for the state for 20+ years and always lived in PA, many others have a similar situation. There are literally thousands of PA residents that work in NJ, this law would absolutely be devastating to Bucks County.
