Default Wilkes-Barre, Scranton or Bloomsburg?

Moving from northern NJ. Single guy, mid-thirties, active. Bloomsburg is more central to the area I'll be covering, but WB/Scranton area seems to be a better fit? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're ok with a smaller town, slower pace of life, then Bloom it is. If you crave some more options for socializing and culture (bars, restaurants, coffee shops, music ans sports venues, etc.) then Wilkes Barre or Scranton.

Bloomsburg has 20,000 people. The only thing I would suggest is if you chose Bloomsburg you don't live in a student neighborhood.

Since when is Wilkes Barre or Scranton a cultural destination? What is there to see? Pocono Downs, Lackawanna Station, minor league baseball or the Woodlands?

If you do want to see something in WB/Scranton they are not that far of a drive.

Thanks for the replies.
I think I have seen this posted here, but I am wondering if there are areas of WB to avoid. (Particular streets, parts of WB proper, N, E, W, S sides?)?

Bloomsburg actually has about as much to offer as WB does in its downtown. As stated though there's a LOT of college students so if they aren't your thing you may feel more at home in WB or Scranton. Bloom is definitely safer, though. And much cleaner.

Bloomsburg. Only because it is the only one I have never visited!

I think Bloomsburg would be boring as hell. Its a nice enough town, but its in the middle of nowhere. Not much to do unless you like funneling beer with college kids or hanging out at Wal-Mart.

Yeah, but the Wilkes-Barre area's real downtown these days is around the arena...the same goes for Scranton with both Montage and Dickson City...and those places have a lot more to offer than some college bars and hippie shops in Bloomsburg. I've had some great times in Bloomsburg, but it was when I was a 21 year old college student out to party.

I hope your job is a great one if you need to consider leaving Northern N.J. and have Bloomsburg, WB and Scranton as your choices. Bloomsburg is a college town (I went there for college), with a middle class population, some farm land (not too much to do), WB, I would avoid living near Balckman and Kidder Streets. As for Scranton, there's bars, and funeral homes galore. Taxes are high and there is, in my opinion, not to much to do, believe me. I'm single and this area is made up of families, married adults with children, a big elderly population and college students on the prowl on the weekends. So the best I can say is pick you poison. Best of luck!
