This year's RiverFest in Wilkes-Barre's Nesbitt Park will be held on the 35th Anniversary of the Hurricane Agnes Flood, which devastated the Wyoming Valley back in 1972. That flood sent tens of thousands of residents packing their bags to the hillside suburbs out of fear of the river in what would eventually lead to economic turmoil in Wilkes-Barre and surrounding towns. Now, organizers of this event are hoping that these same people and their offspring will be willing to embrace this river once again through river tours on canoes and kayaks, fishing demonstrations, nature hikes, and a bicycle safety program for children from 11:30 AM-3:30 PM.
