We are looking into purchasing a home in Warrenton and commuting (either I-66 HOV lane or a commuter bus) to Arlington for work. Could anyone tell me if such a commute is tolerable and how long it takes to drive to Arlington (leaving home around 5:30am; leaving Arlington around 4:30pm; HOV lane)? Thank you!

Ugh. That is a crap commute. Warrenton to North Arlington (right off 66) or Warrenton to South Arlington (Pentagon, Crystal City?)

My best guess to north arlington is about 70 minutes in the morning (if you leave AT 5:30, not a moment later) and 90min in the afternoon, door to door. Commuting to S. Arlington would be longer.

I think part of your commute will be on route 15 and I have heard that is jammed all the time.

Thank you for your reply, NYmama2dallas! The commute would be to Crystal City. We test-drove the other day (rush hrs), and it took us 75 minutes.

Default Warrenton commute option questions

Clovius, I'm in same boat as you...I am moving into area later in the year. Does anyone know about bus/van service to Pentagon from Warrenton? I think a longer commute would be tolerable if someone else were driving and I was reading or sleeping. What about the VRE from Broad Run? How hard is it to get to the Vienna Metro in the morning and are there certain times that are better than others?

The time you're leaving and the fact you're able to do HOV definitely helps. I assume you took 29 to 66 to 110 to 1? Contrary to what one of the other's said I don't think 15 would even come into play.

I am new in warrenton. Looking to carpool to Arlington. If we have two people we can cut over to 95 HOV. Much more reliable than 66.

I live in Haymarket and commute to alexandria. If there was an accident on I-66 around centreville that closed down I-66, I might consider taking the prince william county parkway to I-95, but no way would I cut over to I-95 on a regular basis.

You should check the HOV rules for 95, I believe 95 is HOV 3.
