I just wondered if anyone had driven it a lot and knew. The road obviously goes over the dam that creates the lake, and it would depend on things such as how much water can get through through the dam, which is under the road. It looks like a well-drained road otherwise. Water just has a way of getting out of control. The 100 year flood plain concept. At some point, I'm sure that it will flood, it's just whether it's twice a year, or once every 200 years, etc.

There is that point in the road where it dips and goes over the dam, but I've never seen it flood. Or heard anyone talk about "the time it flooded," etc.

I've never seen that happen in my life. There are drains in the dam, and the road is some distance above the lake.

Looking at this photo you can see Wiehle Avenue is a good 15-20 feet higher than the lake.

We'd have to have a storm of biblical proportions to raise the lake level high enough to overflow onto the road. At any rate, to answer your question, it's never flooded as far as I can recall and I've lived in the nearby area almost 40 years.



BTW, the lakes have drainage systems. They drain them every once in awhile so they can clean out the algae and keep them healthy.

Thanks. The creek that feeds Lake Anne looks pretty small. It probably doesn't drain a large enough area to push the cfs required to raise the lake very fast. Good to know. The areas east like Hunter's Mill and Great Falls look to be real treacherous going during/after a heavy rain, though.
