I've really tried to make it work here in Fairfax County, but as a person who hates suburban living and lives in Reston, the stereotype of suburbia, there's really no way I'll ever feel happy here.
Oh. I hope you get to meet soon and that it works out for you. What are you waiting for? Why haven't you met? Are you going up there this weekend? Pittsburgh isn't too bad in the summer. There's lots going on and it's not as rainy as the fall, winter, and spring.

Why is it called a power commute as opposed to a stupid commute or ridiculously long commute? I suppose power commute puts some kind of positive spin on a terrible commute. Power commute sounds like something Superman might do.

OP, I really like your perspective. That's how I used to feel about my commute to work, too. I took Wiehle, Fairfax County Parkway, and Algonkian Parkway. Those are three tree-lined curving roads. It was almost like driving through a park.

Now I'm close enough that I can walk to work (if I want). But if I had to go back to my old commute I wouldn't mind it that much. Sure, sometimes it got a little slow but looking at the trees was nice.

Maybe it is called Power Commute because one has to muster up enough power within themselves to deal with everything they are about to encounter? I guess it's better than calling it The Commute That Sucks, I Hate This Commute, or Every Time I Think About It I Want to Throw Up Commute.

I never heard of Power Commute before reading it here. Me thinks our frequent poster from Reston coined the phrase when contemplating a move to Winchester. Perhaps it made him feel power-ful.

LOL, yeah that term kind of had me scratching my head, too. I guess everyone has a different opinion on what makes you feel powerful. I know a brutal commute like that wouldn't make me feel powerful,l it'd make me feel drained. But, to each his own.

Good question. I just used the lingo with no real regard for any implications that the term might carry with it...

Can I ask why its "stupid" to commute an hour from Winchester to, say, Ashburn, but its some form of genius to commute from Alexandria to Bethesda or Greenbelt?

You got me, I think commuting from Alexandria to Bethesda is even worse because you have to cross the river.

For what it's worth, I would never call someone stupid for making an hour-long commute. People have their reasons, and some people like driving more than others. I've always tried to live less than ten miles from work, but that's my choice. Also, I've been very lucky to be able to do that.

Yeah, I don't mind driving so long as I have a good radio (preferrably satellite ). Hopefully my car doesn't mind either..

I hope that you are spending the weekend in Pittsburgh with the new ''romantic endeavor''. It's high time you two kids meet in person!

Did you coin the term ''power commute"?
