I am moving to Vienna from overseas. Currently in South Carolina waiting for household goods to arrive in the states and I'm online looking into preschools for my 3.5 year old. Started with montessori schools, but they are SO expensive not to mention full. Schools with spots available were The Boyd School and Brooksfield School. Both are over 11k a year! I'm now looking into other options? Any advice?

Dolley Madison is a long hike from Vienna. Unless you are working at the CIA, it wouldn't make much sense to enroll your child there -- once you got home after drop-off, you would have to turn around and come back for pickup. Plus you would have to contend with the Tyson's mess to get there.
If you are looking for a part-time preschool program, such as a half-day 2-4 times a week, you will find that many such schools are operated in or by local churches. They are not nearly as expensive as Montessori, but they do tend to fill up well before June.

Clare is right...it would be a haul to DMPS. I know of a few families who live in Vienna on the other side of Tysons at the preschool and do the drive. What about FB Meekins? I think it might be a co-op but I believe it has a good reputation.

I would check out Andrew Chapel (on Trap Road)- excellent preschool - plus it's 4 hours and kids bring their lunch. Both my kids go there.

If there is no space- consider other church-based preschools which are mostly 3 hours- at 3.5 yrs I imagine it's 3 days a week:

Vienna Presbyterian
Epiphany
Wesley
Holy Comfort

Look into any of the following:

Vienna Baptist Children's Center
Parkwood School
Wesley Preschool
Holy Comforter Preschool
Emmanuel Lutheran
Vienna Presbyterian
Fairfax Circle Baptist
Meekins Preschool

All of the above are popular preschools with Vienna moms. My children have personally attended the first three on the list, and we were very happy with all of them. All of them are much less expensive than $11,000 per year. I believe all of them are 3-4 hour per day programs either 2, 3, 4, or 5 days per week. If you need more info., feel free to ask.

Faith Baptist Church in Vienna is great -- every mom I know who has kids there, raves about it. It is just off Maple Ave., on Center St.
