I have indoor allergies, and I also have an out-of-town guest slated to visit soon who'll be sleeping in a bed that hasn't been touched in about five years. Thus, I've decided to have both mattresses steam-cleaned, if I can find a reputable outfit that does this in NoVA. Any recs? Thanks in advance!!

Easier to get a steam cleaner at Bed Bath Beyond. After 2-3 uses it will pay for itself.

I don't know if this company does mattress cleaning, but they did a great job cleaning my furniture and carpet, at a fair price. Diamond Carpet Care, (703) 719-5600, Alexandria.

Has the bed been made and covered? If so, why not just wash everything and vacuum the bed? sorry, I've never heard of bed cleaners so I can't help you.

I wouldn't trust anyone to clean the mattress. They might not know what they are doing, and if the interior gets too wet you will have bigger problems. Vacuum it, then use a Upholstery shampoo, let it dry, then put on a cover. You can also spray it with an Allergen Fabrize or whatever it is called. But I would only use the shampoo if it soiled...otherwise the cover will work.

I'd go this route too. Just make sure the mattress is not soaked and dry it outside in direct sunlight.
