All,

What are you doing for the 4th of July? I need suggestions!

My b/f and I are in our 20s and it will be the two of us.

Thanks for your help!

Do a search, there have been a lot of great ideas for July 4th posted on this forum over the years. Most of the local towns have celebrations. Or, you can head into DC, listen to all the concerts, see the fireworks, and maybe even check out the Folk Life Festival (if it's still up, I'm not sure how long that runs). The Nats are playing the Mets, so you could take the metro down for the game and then grab the metro over to see the fireworks.

Also, ask your neighbors if there's anything going on near you. A lot of neighborhoods have block parties (especially if you live on or near a cul de sac). That's a good way to meet all your neighbors.

I'd avoid going into MD this year, since they are having a water emergency this weekend.

A friend just sent me info about this festival, it runs through Mon. the 5th.

If you don't mind crowds, and this is your first year here, I highly recommend going to the National Mall. Everybody should do it once! Just be aware that it takes a while to get home afterwards. The good news is, there's sort of a party atmosphere. I actually think the crowd waiting for the metro is a lot of fun after the fireworks (as long as you are in the mood for waiting a while to get a train).

We actually took our kids to the National Mall when they were just 1 1/2 years old...I was shocked how easy it was for us to get in and out of the city that day. I thought it would be a zoo but it wasn't bad. (Although it was HOT!)
