Right now what is my incentive to pay to sit on a bus in the same traffic that I, too, could be sitting in for free? Mass transit is great unless it becomes more costly and more time-consuming than driving.
Yeah, right, until you realize that you have two or three blocks to the bus stop, pay enormous amounts for the privilege of riding on a stinky bus, on a schedule that is not at all convenient. Of course mass transit takes longer than driving and costs more! Duh. Why did you think now one rides the bus and people constantly complain about the metro? Why would you think that spending billions to create a bus lane would change that when the same people would be in charge of running it?

Really? Which states might those be? And just how do they make it CRYSTAL CLEAR? lol, I love it when you make up stuff to ''prove'' your point! You are tooooo funny!

My driving is generally on the GW Parkway which normally flows very well (there's good reason why it was the model for the German Autobahn) so the concept of a fast lane is very appropriate there. My expectation is that slower traffic would keep to the right allowing the left lane to be used for passing and faster traffic.

Kentucky. We have very clear signs that say "keep right except to pass" on I-71 and I-65.

California, and most western states. Signs are posted on the highways stating: Keep right, except to pass. Many people who have lived in other regions of the United States are familiar with this concept.

Exactly what is *your* point? To illustrate the tolerant NoVA attitude towards others who have different experiences than yours?

NoVA drivers are better than Maryland and DC drivers, from my observation. But on the whole, many drivers in this area have very sloppy, aggressive, and self-centered driving habits. Not impressive.

New Mexico with posted signs, Texas with posted signs as a matter of fact Texas actually has Drive Texas Friendly Signs, which in effect mean that one should pull over on the shoulder to allow a faster driver to pass, if it is only a 2 lane road.

Californians, at least, are born knowing this. Signs, where they exist, are superfluous.

Let's continue to have a constructive debate on the original topic using the facts as we see them, whether we are supporting or refuting a point.

True... All true.

But I digress!
