Default Anyone here from or live in Fairlington in Arlington, Virginia

Hey I was born in Fairlington, and I go to college in Miami. Just wondering if anyone would volunteer that they live in Fairlington or are from here. And anyone else can write what they want about Fairlington! I love Fairlington, it's the perfect bubble in a metropolitan area.

I spent 1st through 3rd grades living in Fairlington in the mid-seventies. I think it was S. 35th St. The pool was just north of our townhouse and I spend almost every summer day there. My school was about 4 blocks north and I would walk there and back. Had a great time biking around the area to the 7-11, Bradlee shopping center, etc.

We didn't have but a tiny backyard but that didn't really matter to me cause I was out and about. Lots of kids around but I only got into a little trouble. Halloween was great too.

Only problem was that our townhouse's sewer would back up into the basement. My stepdad said it was a major design flaw but it meant we didn't keep much of value down there. Later on we hosted 3 Vietnamese refugees that lived with us, but I didn't see anything odd about it at the time. The area was solidly middle class back then; almost all white; with lots of government workers (like my stepdad).

Fairlington was probably the best area I lived in as a kid. The worst by far was Sarasota, Florida. Austin has been pretty good to me so I can't really imagine going back to Alexandria/Arlington, though I do have good memories.

I did in part of the 70s and 80s after renovation to condos. I loved the place. This was my first home ownership and when I eventually sold, I made a bundle. Prices now are even more exorbitant, as the area has become in great demand among yuppies and others who want to be close to DC.
