I'm planning to replace all the windows (I think they're regular-sized windows + 1 big bay window) in the house that I'm about to buy. I know a couple people that can replace the windows for me. Both of them usually shop for the supplies at Home Depot.

I'm just wondering if there is another place to buy windows that are cheaper than Home Depot or Lowe's? I don't mind if it's 2008 or 2009 model. I dont even mind if they're old windows as long as they are still working fine in good condition and they come with everything as new.

If there's any suggestment about window replacement, please feel free to make the suggestion. I'm listening/reading.

Thanks for the help!

My MIL (mother-in-law) is replacing her windows. She shopped for 5 years. First she was going to buy the Jel-Wen windows from HD, but if you look up "reviews" for them, they are not good reviews. She asked around a lot of people and friends. Finally found the windows she wanted in Shippensburg, PA from a local resaler. They are vinyl, triple pane, very nice, windows. They won't need to be replaced for 20-30 years I'd say. I would not go to HD or Lowes for Windows personally, but if you do, Lowes has a 10% off coupon you can get. Go to US Post office and ask for a movers packet and they have the coupons inside. You can use these at HD too.

Shippensburg is about 2 to 2 1/2 hrs away. If you buy enough windows, they will deliver to you. I will ask her the information about which store she went to, but I think it is a small town and not many places there. The windows are US local made custom sized, etc.

Long Fence/Windows - very expensive and they pass outdoor sound through like they're wide open. I bought them for my Arlington house when I moved in ten years ago. Wished I never had I'm very unhappy with them

Was very pleased with the quality of the windows and the installation by American Windows and Siding (5-10 years ago, installed in a 40s house). When a manufacturing defect showed up in one of them several years later (it looked as if a BB had been shot through the glass) the company quickly, without charge, and without hassle replaced it.

These custom-sized windows were not cheap, and I think there are probably better ones available today, with regard to energy efficiency and soundproofing. But I really think you want to buy quality rather than try to get the cheapest ones, since you will pay a lot for installation regardless. You want them to perform well and to get as much of your money back on energy efficiency and resale.

Thanks for the info! That place is over 2 hours away though.

So no one recommends going to Home Depot or Lowe's for windows? Are their windows overpriced or something?

I did my own research and found out about The Window Man in Fairfax too. They're only 10-15 minutes away from me so I can physically go there and take a look in their showroom. Anyone heard or used them before?

I concur with ACWhite. American Windows and Siding did a great job on my windows. I had mine installed about 2 months ago.

They did such a good job I just had them out yesterday to do my doors as well.

Had windows installed from Window World last year based on a recommendation from a friend. I used to install windows and was impressed with the quality and price. I upgraded from their basic window to get the energy star tax credit. I paid ~$250/window which included installation and aluminum capping. After one year I am still pleased with the purchase and would definitely recommend them to a friend.

Default Ballpark price

Hi everyone, I'm new on here. I plan to check out American Windows and Siding. Just to confirm, is this their website? "http://www.american-windows.com"

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's the ballpark overall prices everyone paid for their windows replacement job?

Thanks!
