Haven't been there since it was Jake's. Might have to try the place.

I know KC's had a smoking bar but they've closed down.

From what I've heard, the Hampton Roads area has improved for the past decade. Now unless of course these are out-of-towners who are saying stuff like that.

You might not have experienced any crime since you've been here but that doesn't mean there is none. The Old Town area in Manassas is quiet but far from trouble free.

Major crime and decay issues with illegal aliens who infest the area.

I scratched my head when you said "it's a ghetto". That term gets used so loosely these days. I mean does Georgetown South really seem ghetto compared to some places in Brazil, which is known for its dangerous ghettos. I mean some people say PG County has ghetto parts and then I have to sit back and think about this. Is it bad because crime happens there? Are there dead bodies just lying on the ground, are there shoot outs every night, do people get robbed in broad daylight constantly? The area maybe bad, but saying it is ghetto is extreme. And by the way Hampton Roads is no different than any other area, it has good and bad areas. I don't think your view is different than anyone else, it just that word ghetto means something completely different to other people especially if they have been to other parts of the world.

Well you would have to measure ghetto to your standards. Mine are probably higher than most on this board.

I can understand that. What part of the Hampton Roads are you from?

Midtown Hampton (think Todds Ln right off I-64) and York County (mainly for schools.) Have family in Newport News (Denbigh) and Norfolk.

FYI There is a train station in Manassas. VRE.org Spendy but better the I66 every day-maybe a van pool? Still figure on more then an hour commute.

I really believe you would be happier further North if your job is in DC. I drove from Woodbridge on 95 and Beltway for years. Misery index was very high.
