Woo hoo it is really coming down out there!!!!! And I'm loving it!

(Although I wonder what the outdoor concert will be like tonight. Anyone been to the Summer Music Fest after a rain? Is the ground a soggy mess or does it dry out fairly fast?) Oh well, who cares. I'll wear my swim suit that doubles as a tank top, and if it rains again I can always pretend I'm at Woodstock.

Looks like it's already stopped. If you're east of us and worried if the rain will spoil your event, don't worry. It's a very fast moving storm. And temps dropped down to the 80s because of it.

Ugh...my husband is stuck in Atlanta thanks to the darn storm! He was supposed to land at 5, but now I'm not sure he'll make our 7:00 dinner plans with friends...

RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY.... (You can come back tomorrow!)

It is just starting here in Springfield, but it looks like we are at the southern edge of it and it won't last long. The timing is fine by me.

The storm knocked out a few stop lights on Reston Pkwy around the Toll Road ramps. Do they not teach Driver's Ed anymore? IIRC, when you come to a traffic signal that is not working, and there is no one directing traffic, you should treat it as a 4-way stop, right? I had people honking at me for stopping and yielding the right of way to those who had arrived at the intersection ahead of me. Seriously, if my tubby tukus can take it's time getting to Harris Teeter, certainly you (the honkers) can try and contribute to a safe road.

Yes that's correct. You would think (or, we would hope) that would be common sense anyhow, right? Otherwise, what would determine who gets to not stop?

We were in DC when it hit. The dead leaves and dust went swirling up in the air. Fortunately we were in our car. It was pretty amazing.

We were out in Reston, too and hit a few of those traffic lights that were out. We had no problems, though.

It didn't do much here. It got a bit windy for a few minutes, rained hard for a few minutes, and that's about it.

That was quite a little storm! Sorry to hear some of you had downed trees and power shortages, I've had my share of those and yes they are real nuisances. And tragic to hear about 2 people getting killed. But after so much heat I had nothing but love for that rain.

We were at a block party in a neighbor's basement when it hit. The wild winds whipped through for 5 minutes, but then it passed. About 20 minutes after that we ventured out. The sweltering heat was gone! The air was pleasant, and birds were singing. It was like a scene in a movie.

So we decided to take a group walk around the neighborhood to check it out, and that turned out to be a blast. After days of feeling trapped inside by the heat, it was as if everyone up and down the street decided to go outside. It almost felt like a big party, everyone was waving and stopping to talk to each other.

And then that sunset! Spectacular! I guess feelings about the storm are mixed, but we loved it.
