Hi, I'm looking for an affordable place to have a b-day party for soon to be 5 year old daughter. About 7-10 kids with their parents. Rec center run about $200 for 15 kids for pizza and pool. Anyplace cheaper than that? Thanks everyone.

When my son was that age, we did a bowling party. HUGE hit. I wouldn't say it is cheap but basically they bowling alley will give you a package (one game, shoe rental, space for the party.) The kids loved it and not a lot of parents do it so it didn't seem to be "overdone."

I think the rec center with a pool, pizza etc. at $200 is a bargain. But that's me.

Where are you located? Do you belong to a neighborhood pool?

The Rec Centers and the nature centers are usually pretty good deals.

You could always plan it at a playground (with a rain date) - let them play on the equipment and bring a ball for them to kick around and some small squirt guns. You could have pizza and cake at the picnic tables or on a picnic blanket if no tables are available.

if you live anywhere near Arlington, the spray parks are great! Some of the parks have the shaded pavillion with a first come first serve policy. We did that for my son's 5th b-day this year. It was great.

If you are spending $200 or so a lot of people in the Ashburn/Leesburg area do bounce houses...Loudoun Sports Bounce, Pump It Up. Or Jumpin Jack Sports. Personally I have done my kids at home...This past year we did a pinyata (I have no idea how to spell that word, lol!) in the basement and b/c my kids have early Nov birthdays we decorated pumpkins and had cake and ice cream and played a game. That's all they really wanted/needed. This year will be more of the same. When they turn 5 (the following year) they will have another home party BUT we are taking them to Disney so they shouldn't expect much else, lol!

McDonalds and Dairy Queen might be a good choice if you don't want the mess in your home. Chuck E Cheese has party plans too.

For anyone in Manassas, we did a party for my son once at The Magic Putting Place on Mathis Ave. We brought our own cake, did mini-golf and the ice cream from next door. The kids had fun and I thought it was reasonably priced. This is from their website: Miniature Golf Family Fun Putt Putt Manassas VA - The Magic Putting Place - Family and friends recreational outing. Miniature golf course parties. Lighted for night time play for fun or to practice putting skills with enjoyment and challenges. Mathis

$4.00 each player for 36 Holes and the use of our Pavilion
with two large picnic tables for 2 hours
For Dominos Pizza add $2.50 each person
(one large single topping pizza per 8 people)
Includes one 12oz drink, plates & napkins
$1.00 each person for Nathan’s Ice Cream
