I was told to wait for the new additon that will be coming out, but wondered if anyone would please share an A/C repair company referral with me now?? The A/C in our place is not cooling well and we've got a leak now in the basement. Appreciate it very much!

The condenser coil is probably the cause for the leak. I don't recall the cost (500-600) when we had it replaced. I've had a number of people recommend John C. Flood. We've used Residential Systems out of Chantilly/Centreville.

I found some pretty bad reviews on John C. Flood--the majority were very bad experiences. Anyone else have a recommendation for A/C repair?

Went back and they only recommended one office of John C. Flood after someone else complained about the firm. There seem to be a lot of complaints about the big chains that advertise on the television.

I've used Dualco in Sterling on two jobs in the past as well.

Dualco Inc.
Northern Virginia Heating & Cooling - RESIDENTIAL SYSTEMS INC.

I've used both Residential and Dualco originally because they were the firms specified by the home warranty firm American Home Shield on the rental properties and then called them for my house as well.
I recall Dualco was also the designated HVAC contractor for the condominiums down the street.

Try your homeowners association or someone else locally for referrals.

I highly recommend HVAC Unlimited in Springfield, VA (Fullerton Road). They work all over the NoVA area.

I phoned four companies to come to my house. Three of which told me I needed an entire new furnace/AC unit - to the tune of $7,000+. The other company never showed. I originally called these companies because I was told I needed a new unit by another company that was in my house 6 months prior doing something else.

My brother had used HVAC Unlimited and recommended them to me. On the first day of summer my A/C went out completely and the house was over 90 degrees. I phoned them, they came that same day, fixed my A/C for $280.00 and it is working better then the entire 8 years I have lived in this house.

The owner is an old school guy who believes in furnaces and A/C's lasting 15 to 20 years not 10 (I talked to him personally on the phone also). There was no BS. They were SUPER!

She's in Arlington or Alexandria per a thread she started.

Here's an old thread pertaining to HVAC companies recommended for a poster in Arlington. Neither of the recommendations are based in Alex/Arl.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/north...arlington.html

The price RSI charged for the new coils is as of about five years ago. The coils come with a 5-yr warranty. They recently came over to replace a burned out capacitor in the outdoor unit which is a common occurrence in high temps. The job cost $256 which is in the ballpark of other companies friends have used (250-300).

It wouldn't surprise me if the replacement on the coils are much more expensive now.

Prices have gone up dramatically for new furnace in the last year and probably for other HVAC equipment as well, thanks to the stupid Obama tax credit. Two years ago, RSI quoted 2500-3000 for a gas furnace. Now they're in the area of 4000-6000. Friends of mine from other cities are saying the same thing. The price for new installations are being jacked up by roughly the cost of the tax credit ($1500).

You can access the Checkbook site from a Fairfax library if you have a library card.

They may have the present and past Checkbook issues in the library. The N Quincy St branch has a large business section.
