I have an 8 and 12 year old that want to do cheerleading and gymnastics and other sports depending on what they have. There isn't anything thru the schools until high school I was told. I looked at one link for Springfield Youth Club but there isn't any gymnastics.

Can't help you on specifics but if you can get your hands on a copy of Parktakes, the county's quarterly guide to all the park programs, there are a lot of private groups that advertise in there. There are at least a couple of gymnasitc programs as well as other clubs, sports, etc. The magazine should be available at the rec centers and the libraries, then you can sign up and get a subscription for home delivery.

One thought that we use to do when the kids were young was have them first take a class or two through Parktakes to see if they liked it. It's much cheaper than getting into a potential year long contract. Did that with swimming, and then later Tae Kwan Do as well as fencing. Good way to experience something new without a huge time/money commitment.

A lot of the Parktakes programs aren't very good for long-term but it can be a good idea to try something new there. Once my daughter and her friend tried introductory ballet and decided it was boring (they were attracted by the costumes, like so many little girls!), but then they tried gymnastics and liked it so we signed them up at a gym.

Here are a couple of places:

Infinity Cheerleading - Home

Dancensations Dance Center
