Default So now it's official ...

I had never heard this area referred to as DMV except very occasionally here on this board, but apparently it's catching on:

'The DMV' nickname for Washington area

I've never encountered its usage except here on C-D.

To me, DMV is the Dept of Motor Vehicles. The place you don't want to be.

We live in DC, or "just outside" DC. Not "the DMV." Makes me think of channel 50, "The WB." What's with calling something "the" something?

Lol agreed, it just sounds awful. Can you imagine telling someone that you live in "the DMV"?

What I want to know is where do Patty and Selma reside, and will we be overrun with municipal smock and/or vest uniform stores in all vacant storefronts?

Totally stupid. You can tell that a certain WashPost reporter had to come up with something by deadline. Just walk on by... nothing to see here...

I've been hearing it on the radio for years as "the DMV" --I just wish it had never caught on. Who could relate anything happy, positive or fun by thinking of the DMV? That is, unless you're from Maryland and you only know that dungeon of horror and long lines as the MVA.

I had a friend on facebook refer to it as the DMV. I thought she meant the dept. of motor vehicles. We need to kill this before it grows. It's a silly name. I just say "DC area."

Yup, and they probably just read it right here on city-data. A lot of times I think those Wapo reporters just take stuff right off of CD.

Maybe we're in luck -- since no one actually reads the WaPo anymore, this will do nothing to promote the name .
