We were at Great Falls this morning with our kiddos and enjoyed the sights of some hawks. Got us thinking about how much we miss seeing bald eagles. In Washington state we had several that lived right around our house. So, where do you find them in VA?

This place is supposed to be in the top ten of best eagle viewing in the country (not county!).

Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge

There was a rather famous pair of eagles (George & Martha) that nested at the Maryland end of the Wilson Bridge...don't know what happened to them.

Trump National Golf Course has quite a few eagles. I guess they're hoping the golfers have donuts.

Mason Neck is definitely a good place to spot eagles. There was also an eagle nest I spotted last year in a tree on the golf course across from Belle Haven Park on Route One in Virginia, just south of the beltway. Not sure if they are there this year.

Thank you everyone! I'll add that to our to-do list. Maybe we can head out there on a nice Saturday in September/October. Our weekends seem to fill up so quickly.

You don't have to go very far. There are some nesting along the inland side of the GW Parkway by the Belle Haven Country Club Golf Course just South of Old Town Alex. You'll need to walk a bit down the parkway path as you can't park along there. They're pretty easy to spot as there are usually several folks with binoculars and telephoto lenses trained on them at any given time.

I've seen one flying back and forth above Fort Hunt Park, and often in the nest that CAVA1990 mentioned (though not lately).

I just drove by the nest and didn't see any activity. Perhaps they just live there seasonally. I am hearing what sounds like an Eagle cry frequently when I walk out my front door so am wondering if they've set up shop nearby. Like Robbo I see them frequently along the parkway along with the Osprey.

I'm no expert, but it seems like you seem them more often in the early summer and then again in the fall. I guess (like everyone else near DC) they go on vacation in August.
