Advertisements

From what I remember years ago in a real estate class, individuals owning less than 4 properties (or don't have a real estate license) do not have to adhere to fair housing laws.

The interesting thing is where a particular person placing an ad does not have to adhere, there are rules regarding what can be legally published. With respect to gender perference in these ads is that it has become a social accepted "prejudice" or enough precedence has been set that newspapers don't see any issues with publishing.

Can't people decide how many people they want to live with and who they want for a roommate? Would it be illegal to say that you don't want to live with child molesters or gay haters or felons or those without a job? Or must everyone accept whoever applies to share an apartment or house? No one would ever take a chance on renting to someone they didn't know.

I agree, even though it may make it more difficult for some people.
I personally don't care who I live with, as long as they can pay the rent, don't use illegal drugs and are considerate. Oh, and like dogs!
