I'm not sure what to make of this place. The wine is apparently served from vending stations like the old fashioned automats of the 1940s. You purchase it by the glassful using some sort of credit card. It looked like they have a wait staff too so maybe you can also be served?

I walked in for a few seconds to check it out and was surprised to see it's apparently a popular place to hang out. Lots of people reading the paper or people watching. Also, the variety of wine was surprisingly impressive. They had Sawtooth Syrah for a very low price, and apparently you can purchase bottles at a $10 discount per bottle (with no corking fee).

I'm tempted to try it--the vending machine looks kind of cool. But I'd love to hear some other opinions first. Anyone try it yet?

Haven't tried the one in Reston, but I've been to similar places in DC and Miami. You get a "debit card" that you use in the machines; the machines offer different sized "pours" (2, 4, 6oz, or something like that). The smallest option lets you sample stuff you might not try otherwise. Had "The Prisoner" for the first time in Miami, and then it seemed to be everwhere I went. Both offered food, too. Give it a try and report back.

There is a place like that in Vienna -- Church Street Wine Cellars -- and it is very popular. The wine is excellent and it allows you to try multiple wines without committing to a large glass. It is a great place to have a party -- they do small groups and small plates of food. I love it.

my husband and I went there for a post-movie date a couple months ago. We enjoyed it. We ordered a wine flight from the waitress and a cheese and cracker tray. We didn't want to leave by the end of the night.

I'd go back, but date nights are few and far between.

Is it "The Tasting Room", or is there another place there now?

We've liked it the couple times we've gone to that one, they're always quite generous with their pours and give us random extra glasses to try. We usually end up getting close to double the amount of wine compared to what they charge us for.

If there's another one there now though, might have to go try it out!
