My friends townhome has the laundry room in the utility room (where the water heater is) It is a really small room (size of small closet) where the washer dryer and water heater is. When she opens the dryer door it can hit the water heater valve. They may see if they can move the dryer to where the washer is and vice versa. Does anyone else have this issue in there utility/laundry room? Any good design or storage ideas in such a small space?

You can find stackable washers/dryers that may give you some more room.

Have your friend check the dryer door. Mine is made so the door can be reversed so it would open in the opposite direction. A lot easier than moving all the machines.

Try Elfa shelves from the Container store.

Also have your friend check and see if there is any room to slide the dryer back a little more. Just make sure the dryer exhaust is not crimped by moving it further back.
