we're relocating to Austin and have family in San Antonio.

Were you the one talking earlier about Staubach? He was at my cousin's wedding and reception a couple years ago in MD. She married a guy from Dallas and his family was close with him. My husband wanted to talk to him so bad, but we were asked to respect his privacy. We almost sent our kid in to be all cute and get his attention (she was 2 at the time).

The Cowboys will never be the same original 'Boys of the Tom Landry & Tex Schram days. Many, many people feel the same. Jerry Jones still is not popular w/the fans & is ripped on constantly by the Dallas media. I still like the Cowboys, but will never be the die-hard fan I was growing up watching them w/my Dad.
Still, as always, the Redskins SUCK!

I so agree with this post, I grew up with a grandfather and uncle who were die hard Cowboy fans, I always say they are turning over in their graves when I bash the Cowboys, but since Jerry Jones took over it has not been the same. He never gives his coaches a chance to get a good team going before he fires them, I am surprised Wade Phillips is still there.

It wasn't me talking about Staubach, but I do know that he's a really great guy. He owned a large commercial real estate firm in Dallas, but sold it a year or two ago. A friend of mine worked w/him & had nothing but nice things to say about him. Wonderful family - not affected by his football fame at all. I'm sure if you had approached him at the wedding, he definitely would have been social. He's one of the good 'ol Boys, lol.
I would LOVE to move to Austin - we're hoping to do so by the time my DS starts middle school. It's a great place to live, albeit very hot in the summer. We just came back from there over the weekend. So much to do & see. Hope you like the Longhorns - Austin is crazy for them! Hook 'Em!

For a relatively young Boys fan, the Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson 90s team was pretty good. I do trace my loyalty back to the Tom Landry teams, but seeing them win big in the 90s was really great. I remember as a young boy praying during commercials when we played the Steelers in those super bowls. Funny how you remember the loses rather than the wins.

I love it how skins fans get depressed for the whole week after they lose to us. I tell skins fans that for cowboys fans the Redskins game is "just another game". That seems to tick them off even more.

If you go to a sports bar/restaurant like Glory Days or Velocity 5 on a day when there is a big Dallas game, e.g. Dallas vs Philly, but the local stations are showing the Redskins game, you will find a ton of the Cowboys fans with jerseys and all.
