Sounds like Reston's your best bet then!

Best of luck.

Perhaps Holmes Run Acres (very close to Fairfax Hospital) would fit your tastes. It's an early '60s type contemporary neighborhood, and many homes in there have been updated. Here's a blog entry about the neighborhood. Annandale VA: Neighborhood Spotlight: Holmes Run Acres is an architectural gem

Have looked at Mantua in Fairfax? There are some contemporaries here (older, of course - 1960s). It's in zip 22031, very convenient to commuting routes.

Holmes Run Acres looks great! Now, we just would need to find a place in our range. The location is good, and I think it's workable.

Thanks so much for the suggestions, everyone-keep them coming!

This is the most helpful forum I've ever been on!

Chris

We like 20th century modern/contemporary style & it was part of what attracted us to Reston, which has a lot of variety of this kind.
We've always admired these homes in Reston:
12014 WALNUT BRANCH RD, RESTON, VA 20194 - HomesDatabase

Some of the older, less ostentatious homes in Great Falls also may be in your style/range. It depends on what crops up in the market:

10614 BEACH MILL RD, GREAT FALLS, VA 22066 - HomesDatabase (http://www.homesdatabase.com/home-listings-NICHOLS+RUN+ESTATES-GREAT+FALLS-VA-MRIS-FX7200039 - broken link)

Here's one in McLean that has something very odd about the price revision that might bring it into your range (worth inquiring if you like it):
1924 RHODE ISLAND AVE, MCLEAN, VA 22101 - HomesDatabase (http://www.homesdatabase.com/home-listings-FRANKLIN+PARK-MCLEAN-VA-MRIS-FX7421176 - broken link)

Try going to HomesDatabase - Home for Sale and Rent in DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania and perusing zip codes in the different areas the posters here mention, including from my post - 20194 (north Reston) and 22066 (Great Falls) in your price range.

Hi, I feel your pain - I have the same tastes (though need a different location), and such houses are very few and far between around here. McLean also has some contemporaries, not exactly what you want but possibly with work, you might like them. The main challenge is price in McLean.

Moderator cut: Please post only non-sponsored MLS sites. has a great search engine. Unfortunately, it can't create the houses we want :-)!

Use homesdatabase.com and enter Fairfax County for location. After you enter the basic information and press enter you will be given an opportunity to refine your search, you can then check contemporary for style. I found 30 in your price range, several in Great Falls which would be good for a Bethesda commute. There were also some in the Alexandria area which would be convenient to George Washington Parkway, also a good way to get to Bethesda. The map will give you an idea of the location of the homes and you can go from there. They will be older homes, any new contemporaries being built will be in the way upper price ranges.

Has anyone mentioned Hollin Hills? It was designed by Charles Goodman (orig National Airport, T1-11). It's just south of Old Town in the Fairfax County part of Alexandria:
2318 KIMBRO ST, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22307 - HomesDatabase (http://www.homesdatabase.com/home-listings-HOLLIN+HILLS-ALEXANDRIA-VA-MRIS-FX7344951 - broken link)
7222 BEECHWOOD RD, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22307 - HomesDatabase (http://www.homesdatabase.com/home-listings-HOLLIN+HILLS-ALEXANDRIA-VA-MRIS-FX7362701 - broken link)

The architecture works, but I think it was scratched because of the commute to Bethesda from there.

I think your best bet might be to compromise on the "new" and look for a home in Truro. It is a neighborhood of contemporary homes built in the 70s. It is an affluent neighborhood in a great school pyramid and most of the homes have been renovated. Houses are in the lower end of your price range.

Best of all it's a hop skip and jump to Inova Fairfax hospital.

Go over to Moderator cut: Please post only non-sponsored MLS sites. and enter 22003 Truro in the search box.
