Hi everyone. My husband and I are moving to Arlington next week because of a job change. We'll be living in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor, and my husband will be commuting to Fairfax. Does anyone have any insight into how bad of a drive this will be? Time/traffic/best routes would all be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Need more details please. Fairfax City or the area of Fairfax County known as Fairfax? Are you closer to Ballston or Rosslyn in Arlington?

For me in Ballston, I'd jump on 66W and head out to Fairfax, assuming you mean Fairfax County (like where 66 meets 50). It's a straight shot and probably would take 25-35 mins. I'd avoid 50 inside the Beltway since you'd have to go through Seven Corners (although you'd be taking the easiest path through Seven Corners).

I had a friend that commuted from Arlington to Oakton (the 123 exit on I-66, which is the same exit for Fairfax City, and one exit earlier than 50.) It took her about 30 minutes -- the traffic on I-66 backed up in both directions until she got out of Arlington. We had to be at work at 8:30.

It'll take your husband roughly 60 minutes...depending about where exactly in Fairfax he has to work. He can just take Route 66 towards Fairfax....

I live in Fairfax and you could get here from Ballston in 60 minutes on a bicycle. 30 would be closer in a car. 66 would probably work in the morning. In the afternoon, there's a backup at the merge with 267, but there are lots of alternate routes.
