I recieved my 2010 Personal Property Tax today and lived in the Mark Center are for 1 year. 2006 Honda Accord V6 $227 and 2008 Mustang GT $301. Not complaining but I have noticed since living here one year it seems for every 20 cars 3 have stickers. In my apartment complex alone I would say for every 20 there is 1. There seems to be no enforcement on this. Thoughts?

Really? It seems every car I've seen here has them, unless they're from out of state. I have yet to see a car with VA plates that doesn't have a sticker; and as far as enforcement, it seems like it's a pretty easy catch. it's really obvious if a car is missing those stickers (they're the ones on the windshield, right?).

- Prince William County

Decal:

I know what you mean. I made my husband get his car registered last year, because he didn't even realize he was supposed to, and he ended up having to pay back taxes. We have also noticed in our complex that hardly anyone has city of alexandria stickers.

Katy, these are the stickers that people have for the city/county they have their car registered in. You're thinking of the VA state inspection stickers.

I am sorry I mean the City of Alexandria sticker that is to go to the right of the State of Virginia Saftey inspection sticker. They are green for 2009-2010 and will be yellow 2010-2011. I guess some could have paid taxes and forgot to put the decal on but I assume many are not paying. I would rather see the city sales tax increase and end personal property tax.

In jurisdictions with no decal requirements means no property tax?

No. You just don't have to display the sticker.

Is it possible for someone to live in Alexandria (think Huntington Station area) for four years, registered his car with DMV and never paid car property tax?

If so, how can the county track him down and make him pay?

Huntington area is Fairfax County. You could report them through the FC website. He wouldn't be able to renew his registration with the DMV if he hadn't paid the taxes the year before, so if his registration is current his taxes should be current.
