We went here in April-a dreary day but loved it. We know family and friends visiting will enjoy it too but hate to spend the $15 admission fee every time.

Are there ever any discounts offered in local papers, magazines, etc.?

Periodically they have special offers. Usually during "down" times. We just went there the week after school started (i.e. a slow time because vacations are over), and they were running a special then. You had to pay the $15, but you got the boat ride and some other things thrown in for free.

It's free on the Presidents Day Monday holiday.

Maybe if your name is "Washington," they will let you in for free.

I know they let Girl Scouts in for free around the holidays and into January. Also, they open the top floor during the holidays. (It's not usually open.)

That's discriminatory!

What about all the "Marthas" out there?

On June 2 (Martha Washington's birthday), you get in free if you have the same birthday or if your name is Martha.

Oh okay, cool.

I still don't think I'd name a kid Martha, though.

I wonder if FCPS gets a break on admission? I've done dozens of field trips to Mt Vernon....some of them from pretty poor schools, like Bailey's Elementary...
