So I was browsing the thread about apple picking farms and really liked the one in Maryland. It's website directions from Loudoun County suggested you take White's Ferry to cross the Potomac River. I was able to find photos of the ferry but no schedule, it would be nice to plan ahead since there will be an impatient 4-year-old in the backseat (not to mention a grumpy pregnant lady driving). Anyway, it would be a fun experience since I've never been on a ferry before. Have you tried it? Do you know if there is a schedule for it? Thanks!!

It's a cute step-back-in-time. My kids used to love to ride it. The wait is never horrible; it moves pretty fast. Probably takes about 10-15 minutes to cross the Potomac. There's an old store on the Maryland side and you can rent canoes (also on the Maryland side). You can also get out of the car while you're waiting and "explore" the river banks a bit. Have fun.

Just do it! The ferry goes back and forth and doesn't take very long.

We've done it, and it is nice. The ferry continuously goes back and forth, and the ride itself is only like 5 minutes. Come to think of it, the last time we rode the ferry was after picking fruit at Butler's. We live in Vienna so it isn't really the best route for us, but there was a horrible accident on the beltway, and we wanted to avoid it. Let us know how it goes!
