Hi. We are new to the area and are in the process of finding all of our new physicians. I have received several thoughts on pediatricians, but I am having a very difficult time finding other specialists that accept Tricare Standard. Here's our basic info:
We live in the Manassas area (technically) but we are right by Montclair and close to Dumfires and Woodbridge.
We have Tricare Standard and a supplemental insurance.
We are looking for :
Orthopedic Surgeon (seriously...no one in the area takes Tricare that I can find)
Family Physician
Pediatric Dentist
Those are the basics - any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm willing to drive for good healthcare (but obviously, the closer the better).
Thanks in advance!

I'll assume you have United Concordia for dental. There are very few pediatric dentists that take this but we go to Golden Dental in Burke and I love the staff and dentists there. They are so great with the kids. I go to McMillian and Assoc. in Old Town Alexandria and I am also happy with my care there. Can't help you with the others b/c we go to base for everything else.

I'm sure you have your reasons for being on Standard, but I want to say that this is an excellent area for Prime. There are great outpatient clinics in Woodbridge and Fairfax that are one stop shopping for things like eye exams, nutrition, mental health, mammograms, and pharmacy. While I go to the Fairfax Clinic, I have many friends who are happy with the Woodbridge Clinic. At the clinics you can easily get referrals to Belvoir, Walter Reed, and Bethesda for specialty care. Our family has had referrals for GI, pediatric GI, and pediatric endocrinology in the past year and all of our experiences have been more than satisfactory. In terms of orthopedic surgery, I'm sure there is no shortage of good ones at the military hospitals. The entire Tricare Prime system here is very user friendly compared to other experiences I've had with military health care and best of all, I haven't spent a dime.

Our dentist is Steven Johnson and associates in Annandale, but that is probably too far for you.

Thanks for the information! I can't believe I've never seen the Tricare Provider website - fantastic! In the town we previously lived in everyone (and I mean everyone) accepted Tricare. We do have our reasons for Standard and we have always been pleased with that option. Looks like I'll be checking out a few new physicians!

Default Pediatric Dentist in Alexandria/Family DDS too!

Dr. Jane Delaney is one of the top peds dentists in this area, and her office is in Alexandria, and at one time she took Tricare. Dr. Scott McQuiston is a great doctor (dentist) for the entire family, but I think he only works with PPO plans, and I'm not sure if Tricare Standard is one of the plans where you can go outside your network.
