After reading the responses to another thread regarding federal health insurance programs, I compared BCBS standard (what we have) with the basic option and it seems that it would meet our needs except for prescription drug benefits. We use the mail order pharmacy services. Do you have family members with chronic conditions requiring daily medication not available in generic form and costly? If so, do you use mail order pharmacies or local pharmacies? Thanks in advance.

This has probably been our biggest drawback, but still not to bad. Our son has asthma so takes 2 daily meds, but up until now I have just used CVS or Walgreens to fill the prescriptions. I recently had to have his meds changed which meant all new meds and I was shocked at my bill, come to find out the doctors prescription had been written for a two month supply, so now I know to tell the pharmacy I only want it filled a month at a time.

We got the Basic last year and I was very nervous, but as long as you make sure anything medical is through a preferred provider your costs are very minimal. The no deductible is nice, they do however have a higher copay than Standard for office visits.
