We are missing our annual apple picking trip (a fall tradition in New England). Are there any orchards around here where you can pick your own apples? I was also hoping for some activities for the kids (hay ride, apple cider donuts, play area). Can anyone suggest a place?

Stribling in Markham. My girls had a fabulous time! We've been two years now. Home (http://striblingorchard.com/default.aspx - broken link) Bring a blanket and a picnic. I don't think you'll be disappointed. They also have a snack stand with hotdogs and chips. No hayride though.

You might try one of the pumpkin places (Cox, Ticonderoga and many others) for the hayrides, animals stuff.

We just went to Stribling this past weekend for the first time. While I did like it, if I went again I'd get there as soon as they opened for business. It's extremely crowded and people park blocking other cars Lines for the potty and checkout are quite long too, but the apples are really good!

We like going to Heartland Orchard in Markham. We just went this past weekend and the orchard was pretty empty (of apples and people!). They also have pumpkins, cider, and some snacks. It is a family run operation and we love it!

There's another thread on here with lots of orchards suggested; you may want to search it.

But, remember Winchester/Frederick County area is Apple Country! Head out to Marker-Miller Orchard in Frederick County for a wonderful day trip.

Have fun!

we went to Marker Miller in Winchester and it was great fun, just like in New England (I should know, we just moved here from CT!)

We pick here every year and I love it. But this year I called to see how things were (this was Friday night) and they told me they had a really bad crop due to lack of rain so we didn't go. Sounds like you found that out. That's too bad. They have really good apples. I will still head over there to get some pumpkins and cider!
