I just got a job in Chantilly, VA. I was hoping to get some advice on good places to live. I'm looking to rent an apartment in the area (one bedroom). Townhomes would be sweet but they are probably too expensive. I was told a good place to start looking was in the towns of Chantilly, Centreville, Fairfax, and Herndon. I am concerned about the price of rent (I know the area is very expensive), safety, and a fair pet policy because I have two dogs. I have found some cheap places in Chantilly/Centreville but they look a tad bit shady and I have found some places in Fairfax/Herndon and they are a bit out of my price range. Any help would be great, thanks.

What is your price range for a 1 bedroom? That will help us in helping you determine a good place.

Congrats on the job! Good to have another Pittsburgh-er in the DC area!

Agreed, without knowing your budget, it's hard to help. Also, how large are the dogs? A lot of apartments say they are "pet friendly", but they still have low weight limits, breed restrictions, and large non-refundable pet deposits. We rented an apartment with a dog for a while, but found it a much better deal to rent a house from a private landlord to avoid all those hoops.

I live in Camden apartments in Fairfax. There are tons of dogs here. I have 2 10 pound cats. So they are definitely pet friendly. I believe they may have breed restrictions though. I have a 2 bedroom apartment. I am not positive on the rental rate right now for a 1 bed, but I think its about in your range.

Try Lakeside Apartments in Centreville. They are extremely dog-friendly and even have a dog park on the property. The rent is very reasonable and the area is pretty nice.
